Creating, cooking and competing for the Gold Medal Plate
HALIFAX - Nine top chefs from across Nova Scotia are gathering on Tuesday, October 17 to compete at Gold Medal Plates, a national initiative created to raise awareness and funds for Canada's elite Olympians and Paralympians. Olympic athletes are paired with chefs for the culinary competition in pursuit of becoming the Gold Medal Plates champion.
This year Catriona Le May Doan, a gold medal winner at the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games and Paul Rosen, a Paralympic gold medalist from the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games will attend to share their stories of perseverance and Olympic success with guests. Also present will be a team of Nova Scotian Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.
Ice Sledge Hockey gold medalist Paul Rosen is passionate about sport and his country. "The Gold Medal Plates initiative helps countless amateur and elite Canadian athletes, such as myself, to be better equipped to reach for excellence and achieve it," said Rosen. "It is programs such as this that show Canadians we're proud of our athletic achievements and we support our athletes in their quest for gold."
The Gold Medal Plates judges panel includes head judge James Chatto, a writer for Toronto Life and regional food and wine critics: Bill Spurr; Valerie Mansour; Liz Feltham; Raj Gupta, master chef; and 2004 Gold Medal Plates Champion, Christophe Luzeux of Windows at the World Trade.
